Feng shui, an old Chinese technique that has been used over decades by people in moulding the ways of their living has gained its popularity in the modern age as well.

The fat Laughing Buddha with a big punch symbolises, contentment and happiness. Although the time of its exact occurrence and its use as a tool of feng shui for attaining happiness and satisfaction is unknown, it is a fact that it was first used by the Chinese and the Japanese in the ancient times.

But, according to certain literature, the Laughing Buddha is supposed to be a reincarnation of the Buddha. Hence, its use has been in vogue, at least since the inception of the feng shui techniques. 

The Laughing Buddha – The Laughing Buddha promotes wealth and prosperity as per feng shui. The linen bag that it carries, is supposed to be filled with all the precious things from stones to foods. It is also accepted as an abundant source of happiness and fulfilment.

Due to this reason, feng shui recommends the use of the Laughing Buddha both in the attainment of the material wealth as well as achieving a spiritual contentment. This fact gets its acceptance from its depiction as a Buddhist monk with a bowl while in some others he carries a fan, which is symbolic of fulfilling a wish. 

The feng shui techniques also recommend the use of the Laughing Buddha, in bringing in good luck, happiness for the children. In some cases, he is shown amidst the children while in others the children pull the cart on which he is mounted.
